The Apocalyptic Tee is here!
As a child growing up in the 90s, I like many others grew up with so many amazing Saturday morning cartoons and shows. While I had many favorites, one of my absolute faves (if not #1 pick) was the X-Men animated series.
With all the hullabaloo surrounding the release of the new film centered on one of the X-Men's biggest foes, I thought what better time to put pencil to paper and draw my own X inspired tee.
The Design:
The villain is dead center, complete with a belt buckle that says "evil" on it in Japanese. Surrounding the villain are our heroes in some of their most iconic costumes attempting to take him down. Their belt buckles and patches say "good" on them.
The style of the team is very "Ouchii". Kawaii/Chibi influences - large heads, skewed proportions. One of the best things about the X team is their phenomenal use of powers and I knew going in that I wanted to their powers to radiate all kinds of crazy colors and have that impact the shadows and highlights on their bodies.
The Print:
Going in, I knew the design had so many colors it would cost a fortune to print, and I was prepared for it. I made a commitment to our business that we would never heat press our designs as I believe in the quality that silk screening provides.
That being said, the tee features my most elaborate design ever, and I really wanted this shirt to appear as if it were a work of art screen printed.
... So I decided to try out CMYK this time around, which is a process that layers 4 colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black, respectively) on top of each other in small dots that mix together and form an entire spectrum of color.
The result is pretty stellar - an explosion of color right on the tee.
Order your tee before the end of the day today (May 23rd, 11:59 PM) and receive a free pair of sunglasses and signed print! No promo code needed!
Till next time, folks!
